Islamic Jihad Movement in favor of
Palestine Liberation Organization plans

Naser Abu Sharif

As elections for a new Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), presidential elections, and for new members of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) are coming up, Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, Naser Abu Sharif said that Islamic Jihad Movement seeks a national Palestinian initiative based on new principles that are against the Oslo Accord.

Speaking to Qods News Agency, Abu Sharif said that the Hamas movement seeks to engage in elections to become a real partner in the decision-making process. “At the same time, Hamas movement seeks to create kind of overlap between maintaining ideology, goals, public demands and resistance.”

He stressed that Islamic Jihad Movement believes that the Palestine Liberation Organization can have leadership capability with national and resistance plans.

“Islamic Jihad Movement is in favor of the Palestine Liberation Organization, not the Palestinian Authority, therefore, Islamic Jihad Movement ignores the PA plan which is based on the Oslo Accord,” he added.

Abu Sharif also noted that Hamas preferred to hold all three elections at the same time.

Talking about the policies of the PA president Mahmoud Abbas, Abu Sharif underlined that “Mahmoud Abbas wants to gain recognition to have international momentum. On the other hand, he seeks to drag all Palestinians in line with his own belief which is the two-state solution. But Hamas and other Palestinian groups and organizations have a different goal, a goal that depends on an integrated national Palestinian initiative so that the Palestinian nation can counter domestic, regional and international challenges.”

He then pointed to the efforts of Zionists and other Arab regimes to manipulate and intervene in the Palestinian elections, saying that “they are in favor of elections with elected people who accept long-term and multistep plans in the occupied West Bank. They want elected people who approve long-term ceasefire in Gaza and support Zionism and compromise.”
