A commemoration ceremony was held on Saturday on the occasion of the historic anniversary of the opening of the Palestinian Embassy in Tehran with the attendance of activists, NGOs, and other supporters of Palestine in the embassy building.

Qodsna (Tehran) - Speaking at the ceremony, Palestinian Ambassador in Tehran, Salah Zavavi expressed his gratitude for Iran’s support, stressing that the path of Imam Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution does not belong exclusively to the Iranian nation and it belongs to all Islamic countries.

19th February is the anniversary of the opening of the first Palestinian embassy in Tehran. On 19th February 1979, a group of senior figures of the Islamic Revolution arrived at the former Zionist embassy and officially handed over the embassy to its original owners during the presence of Yasser Arafat, the leader of the Fatah movement and the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The Imam Khomeini's promise to eliminate the Zionist regime will be fulfilled, Zavavi said in his speech, adding that the Zionist enemy does not recognize any commitment and it is preparing to implement its “greater Israel” plan. “Zionists plan to destroy the unity between Muslims”.

Several Iranian figures and activists also attended the ceremony, highlighting unwavering Iran’s support for Palestinian people over the past years.

Senior Iranian pro-Palestinian activist, Meisam Amroudi said that the opening anniversary of the Palestinian Embassy in Tehran will be remembered forever.

“Today we can address the achievements of the Palestinian nations. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the strategy of the Palestinian nation shifted to the resistance path, and now the Palestinian people have realized that they have the right to self-determination. Today the world has identified the ugly face of the Zionist regime,” Amroudi said.

The representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, Naser Abu Sharif attended the ceremony, saying that today's event is one of the results of fundamental and real changes in Iran.

Talking about the effects of the Islamic Revolution on the Palestinian issue, Abu Sharif said that “after 42 years, the Islamic Revolution has become a considerable power against Western powers.”

He then called the Zionist regime “the main enemy of Iran and other Islamic countries.”

“Palestine is a part of Islamic Umma, and at the same time, Israel is a cancerous tumor that plans to bring corruption and destruction to the Islamic countries. Palestine cannot be united under the shadow of the Oslo Accord. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement has not any personal problem with Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, but the only problem that must be observed is to avoid talks with the United States and the Zionist regime,” Abu Sharif noted.

The establishment of the Palestinian Embassy in Tehran was Iran's first formal and practical step in support of the Palestinian nation, signifying the future of Iran’s approach to regional and international developments. Analysts believe that Iran's move led to a serious shift in the Palestinian equation, and brought the Palestinian community and the nations of the region into a new phase of hope for a break from Zionist domination and hopeful global arrogance.
