Islamic Revolution
ruins Zionist plans

Eric Walberg

Canadian political expert told Qodsna: Islamic Revolution ruins Zionist plans for erasing Palestine from the map

Qodsna (Tehrna) - Speaking to Qods News Agency on the occasion of the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, a Canadian writer, senior journalist and political expert Eric Walberg talked about the major effects of Iranian revolution especially on the Palestinian issue.

“Imagine what the world would be like without the Iranian revolution. Iran would be just a Shia version of Saudi Arabia, an illegitimate monarchy, providing oil to the West, including to its 'friend' Israel,” Walberg said, adding that the Shah of Iran “was installed and served the US faithfully, making Iran the command center for the CIA and Israel. The Iranian revolution wasn't supposed to happen. The US and Israel were caught by surprise. Their plans for erasing Palestine from the map were forestalled.”

“Iran became the most important ally of the Palestinians. Israel would most likely have taken all of Palestine for itself, or possibly expelling all Palestinians. There were plans to expel them to Sinai, although Egypt denies it made any such agreement. It is frightening to imagine what the Middle East would look like without the Iranian revolution,” he stressed

Referring to effects of the Islamic Revolution in Iran as the unifier of Muslims community, the Canadian writer also said that “sadly, the Arab world is under the hegemony of US-Israel, as is becoming clearer every day, as the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan recognized Israel, despite its continued theft of Palestinian lands, and almost daily murder of Palestinians, unarmed or carrying some pathetic 'weapon' like stones or, at worst, a knife. ‘Shoot to kill' is the mantra of the IDF. Israeli soldiers regularly murder Palestinians and almost always are unpunished.”

“Palestinians have a right as an occupied people to defend themselves, to fight the occupiers. But Israel brooks no opposition. It is shocking, shameful, that the Arab world has lost interest in the Palestinian cause, and resents Iran's unwavering support for Palestine, isolating and participating in the US sanctions against Iran,” he noted.

He further explained about the role of Imam Khomeini in changing the status of the Palestinian issue, highlighting that “Imam Khomeini's first act as head of state was to break relations with Israel and to install the Palestinian representative in the Israeli embassy. This electrified the world and brought Iran into line with most of the Arab world at that time, in support of Palestine.”

Walberg talked about the UN resolution in 1975 which condemned Zionism as racism, saying that “with the Iranian revolution four years later, Israel was at its most vulnerable and the Palestinian cause was at the top of the world agenda.”

“Imam Khomeini also reached out to anti-imperialist non-Muslim nations such as Cuba, identifying the Iranian revolution and the Palestinian cause with the fight against world imperialism. This brought Iran allies in the struggle for peace, even as the Arab world stayed in thrall to the US,” he said.

The Canadian journalist also stressed the role of the Iranian revolution in giving “a new life” to “the prospect of moving the world away from a world dominated by one malign force, US-Israel,” adding that “Despite the Arab world's disdain for Shia Iran, Iran's unwavering support for a multilateral world governed by international law, resisting the destructive policies of imperialism, has earned it respect from genuine peace activists around the world. The criminal sanctions imposed by Trump failed to break Iran, only increasing the sympathy of those who recognize the evil that US-Israel represents and promotes in its plan to impose a political and economic order controlled by US-Israel.”

He then referred to the new approach of Biden’s administration in the United States, asserting that the new US president, Joe Biden, is struggling to undo the damage done to US hegemony by Trump, includes, in the first place, a return to the JCPOA agreement made by Obama in 2015.

“This is unprecedented, for a country to make an agreement, unilaterally cancel it, and then try to return to it, despite the hysteria of Zionists both within the US and of course in Israel. That alone attests to the power that the Iranian revolution continues to exert, through its steadfastness and ability to work within international law to promote peace,” Walberg highlighted.
