Israeli occupation displaced 34 Palestinians in two weeks- UN

OCHA: Eight Palestinian citizens were injured and dozens of vehicles and trees were vandalised by Israeli settlers during the same two weeks.

Israeli occupation authorities demolished or confiscated 24 Palestinian homes in the occupied Palestinian West Bank within two weeks, UN report found.

In its “Protection of Civilians” report covering the period between 5-18 January, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that these demolitions had led to the displacement of 34 Palestinian citizens and affected 70 others.

During the two-week period, the Israeli occupation army conducted 161 search and arrest campaigns in the occupied West Bank, detaining 157 Palestinian citizens.

Jerusalem (Al-Quds) saw the highest number of arrest campaigns, 33, according to the report.

Israeli occupation forces, in addition, shot and wounded 79 Palestinian citizens, including 14 children, in different areas across the occupied West Bank, the report pointed out.

At least 59 of them were shot by Zionist regime’s occupation troops during popular, peaceful demonstrations to protest against the establishment of illegal settlement outposts near al-Mughayyir and Deir Jarir villages in Ramallah or against illegal settlement activity near Kafr Qaddoum town east of Qalqilya.

The Israeli occupation army uprooted 1,370 Palestinian olive trees in Deir Ballut town in Salfit and Beit Ummar north of Hebron within the two weeks.

In 2020, the Zionist regime’s occupation authorities chopped down nearly 4,164 olive trees in the occupied West Bank, marking a 60 per cent increase compared with 2019.

The Zionist regime’s occupation army also seized 237 sheep near Wadi Fuqin in western Beit-ul-Lham and fined the herder 50,000 shekels (US$15,200) for grazing in an area declared by the Israeli occupation authorities as a “nature reserve.”

The report documented crimes by Zionist settlers against Palestinian citizens and their properties.

Eight Palestinian citizens were injured and dozens of vehicles and trees were vandalised by Zionist settlers during the same two-week period, the report added.
