IRGC commander stresses continued battle against COVID-19

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami urged all IRGC forces and the Iranian people to remain sensitive and active in the field until the coronavirus is uprooted in the country.

According to Tasnim news agency, Major General Salami said on Thursday during a videoconference meeting with provincial commanders of the IRGC “The coronavirus is not weakening and is still active, affecting new areas every day, and we should not show weaknesses.”

Stressing that all should remain sensitive to the needs of people as the coronavirus situation continues to get worse in the country, he said the production and distribution of face masks and other health supplies in order to eradicate the viral disease will continue.

“As no decisive treatment currently exists, we can only tackle this disease by following the health protocols and taking preventive measures,” the IRGC chief said.

Iran’s Health Ministry’s Spokeswoman, Sima Sadat Lari, put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 12,305, saying the disease has taken the lives of 221 patients over the past 24 hours.

She said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has risen to 250,458 following the detection of 2,079 new cases since Wednesday noon.

The spokeswoman added that more than 212,000 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease and left hospitals.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 12.1 million and the death toll has exceeded 552,000.
