Iran condemns attack on Kabul mosque

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman strongly condemned a terrorist attack on a mosque in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a statement on Wednesday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi offered sympathy to the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the pacific people of the country over the deadly attack, which martyred the prayer leader of the Wazir Akber Khan Mosque and injured a number of worshippers.

Two people were martyred and two others injured after a planted bomb exploded inside the popular mosque in Kabul's Green Zone.

Tariq Arian, the Spokesman for Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry, said the bomb targeted the Wazir Akber Khan Mosque at around 7:25 pm local time (15:00 GMT) on Tuesday when worshippers had gathered for evening prayers.

The mosque is located in a high-security diplomatic area near the offices of several international organizations and embassies.

Prayer leader of the mosque, Mullah Mohammad Ayaz Niazi, was one of two people martyred in the attack, Arian said. He was wounded in the attack and attained martyrdom later at a hospital.
