In Between the Lines of the Confederation Plan

Hebrew media sources in recent reports have provided details of the American proposal to PA authority to establish a Palestinian-Jordanian Confederation.

Hebrew media sources in recent reports have provided details of the American proposal to PA authority to establish a Palestinian-Jordanian Confederation.

According to Qods News Agency (Qodsna) a Zionist analyst known as Tesfi Berile wrote in a report published by Haaretz:

The Confederation plan is a high priority mission for the Americans; the Palestinian Authority also considers the plan as a high priority due to the current situation they are into.

Currently PA is more isolated than ever, Arab regime leaders are also isolating the PA and the PA authorities now are in desperate need to gain support of their Arab fellows, not even Jordan is ready to support PA as the Jordanian Minister of Communications and Spokesman of the Jordanian government announced last week that under his order the Confederation Plan is not under agenda.

Israel's plan was later followed by two envoys from Donald Trump which was proposed recently to King Abdullah II of Jordan. According to the plan, West Bank, excluding Jerusalem, will be under Jordan's security oversight and Jordan will be responsible to protect the borders of Israel and the Confederation Plan.

The Confederation agreement was set to be signed between Palestinian leaders in the West Bank and Jordanian officials, the plan has no reference to the formation of a parliament or a constitution. The plan also does not mention whether or not Palestine will be recognized as a country. It is anticipated that Israel might recognize the Palestinian state as part of the Confederation agreement, which, of course, will not include Gaza, because in the future Gaza security management will be offered to Egypt.

The plan is programmed to leave Israeli settlement’s security to Israeli security departments to ensure the security over Israeli settlements.

The Confederation plan concerns the Jordanian officials because it has a potential to create a smaller Palestine inside the Jordanian territories.

The structure of the Palestinian Confederation leads to the presence of the majority of the Palestinians at 1967 borders along the eastern borders. This would likely cause the majority of Palestinians who are in Jordan to seek their own tribal rights on the ground.

The plan does not specify the situation of the Ghor territories of Jordan, but Israel intends to dominate the area. According to the interpretation of Israel, Jordan must become accountable for the security of Israeli borders and the country is responsible for any possible operations inside the West Bank. Jordan should also avoid tensions such as discussing al-Qods's status, borders, and avoid supports the Palestinian resistance groups.

However Jordan insists that Israel recognizes the state of Palestine before stepping in any agreement, this phenomenon is the main reason the PA leader has agreed to participate in the Confederation plan.

The PA leader considers the plan as a new gate for the official recognition of the Palestinian statehood, based on this Mahmood Abbas insists that Israel should also participate in the Confederation plan.
