EU proposals to safeguard nuclear deal 'inadequate'

Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi cast doubt on the possibility of preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Actions (JCPOA) and implied that European proposals cannot save the pact.

Describing US policies towards JCPOA as detrimental, he touched on the history of US enmity with Iran; "US unconstructive anti-Iran policies are doomed to fail," he said.

He further noted that the economic results of JCPOA are far below the expectations of Tehran and called for firm support of UN and EU regarding the pact.

Guterres, for his part, said that saving JCPOA has a significant effect on world security, and explicitly supported the deal.

He further noted that Iran’s political and economic expectations from Europe is understandable and called on the remaining signatories of JCPOA to fulfill Iran’s expectations as soon as possible.

Salehi has traveled to Norway to attend the Oslo Forum and discuss world issues, including JCPOA. The forum will be held on June 19 and 20 at Losby Manor, outside Oslo.
