Dozens of injuries in renewed clashes in West Bank, Gaza

Dozens of Palestinian citizens were injured on Monday in renewed protests in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip over the US recognition of the occupied al-Quds as the capital of Israel.

Medical sources reported that 6 Palestinians were injured in the clashes that broke out at the northern entrance to al-Bireh city following a solidarity protest in support of Quds at Birzeit University.

 

A Palestinian press photographer named Naser al-Shyoukhi was shot with a live bullet in the shoulder while covering the confrontations taking place in al-Khalil city.

 

Meanwhile in Tulkarem province, a local source reported that clashes erupted to the west of Tulkarem city between Palestinian youths and the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in which the latter heavily fired tear gas canisters and live and rubber bullets causing a number of injuries and suffocation cases.

 

Other confrontations flared up between Palestinian youths and the IOF soldiers stationed near the separation wall in Zeita and Qaffin towns to the north of Tulkarem.

 

Clashes were resumed for the fifth day in a row at Huwara checkpoint and in Beit Furik town in Nablus province where the IOF soldiers fired tear gas canisters at the Palestinian youths who responded by throwing stones and setting tires on fire.

 

Clashes were also witnessed in Salem town to the east of Nablus between the Palestinian youths who blocked a settlement road running south of the town and the IOF soldiers who were summoned to reopen the road.

 

According to the spokesman for Gaza's Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qedra, 49 Palestinians were injured after being targeted with tear gas canisters and live and rubber bullets in the demonstrations launched along Gaza's border fence with the 1948 occupied Palestine in protest at the US decision.

 

Violent clashes and mass demonstrations have been launched all over the occupied Palestinian territories in rejection of the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its decision to move the US embassy there.
