Hamas in Tehran
for mending ties

Qodsna

Talk of a shift in Hamas regional policy towards the axis of resistance and Iran is fading with a visiting Hamas delegation in Iran seeking to set anew its policy concerning the regional developments.

Hamas seemed to had shifted its policy amid the Syrian crisis a few years ago however the Palestinian resistance movement is said to be mending ties with the regional resistance led by Iran following the appointment of its new political bureau chief, Ismail Haniya.

Some even consider the change in top Hamas echelon as sign of a resolve within the movement for mending its approach towards the regional developments.

Hamas’ new approach is both Islamic and logical and would lead to an enhancement of its political and military power. It also will brought a new page in Hamas ties with the Islamic Republic as reflected in remarks by senior Iranian official, Ali Akbar Velayati who confirmed after a meeting with the visiting delegation that the two sides had started a new higher level of relations. Velayati affirmed that Iran supports Haniya’s position concerning the regional developments.

A briefing session with reporters following the meeting was dominated by questions about Hamas-Iran ties as well as expectations that the two sides enhance their mutual relations amid the newer regional developments especially in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Some say Haniya was going to visit Tehran however he cancelled his plans due to certain restrictions.

Velayati who met the delegation in Inqilab Hotel talked briefly, after the meeting, about the influence of the Iranian revolution on the regional Islamic resistance movements and then left the briefing for a behind-closed-doors session with Hamas members.

Reports say Hamas had requested Tehran to restore its relations with Hamas to those before the Syrian crisis.

The behind-closed-doors session send the strong message to certain currents in the region who never wished the two sides to mend their ties and still seek to keep the two sides’ relations minted with misunderstanding though Tehran has already defined its foreign policy on the hinges of supporting the Palestinian nation’s resistance in the face of the Zionist regime.

Tehran’s foreign policy designation is strategic and unchangeable.
