Barzani's poll call
faces hurdles

Ali Abdullah Ahmad

Aide to the Syrian Intelligence Minister, Ali Abdullah Ahmad says not all Kurdish parties in the Iraqi Kurdistan approve an independence election sought by Mesut Barzani.

Ahmad told the Qods News Agency (Qodsna) that there are four parties in Kurdistan other than Barzani’s party with one of them totally against independence of Iraq and the other (Talbani’s party) against any election under Barzani.

“The legal period of Barzani as Kurdistan’s president has expired,” he said, adding Talbani’s party considers Barzani as incompetent for holding such elections.

The Syrian official said the political groups in Kurdistan say Barzani has no right to hold such elections on its own accord and rather he must first fill the gap of constitution that has taken place after the parliament in the autonomous region was closed.

“There are serious hurdles to the elections,” the Syrian aide said, adding any party which seeks it goals through disintegration will end up in failure.

The Syrian official said Israel was the prime player in the region to wish to see a disintegrated Iraq.
