Middle East is going to be reborn (By Sayyed Mozaffar Darreh Soufi)

Turkey has so far maintained cordial relations with the Israeli regime and has made lost of efforts to establish peace between Syria and Israel. However, an enthusiastic welcome was accorded to Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey and Gaza.

Thousands of Palestinians all black clad for their lost beloveds took to streets of Gaza and thanked Erdogan for his brave move in Davos forum. Erdogan also received gratitude in hearts of many other people across the world.

Erdogan stance was a turning point in the history of Turkey. It would not have been strange if the Middle East Arabs had conducted the move as they and the Gazans are of common blood and culture. The bravery was rather done by someone who has few bonds with Gazans. Turkey has been run by secular rulers and the previous Turkish governments have tried to sideline religion.

Turkey members North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) and has cordial relations with Israel. Erdogan's move in Davos then shows that the new generation of Turkish leaders has adopted a new policy.

Many analysts believe that Erdogan's protest was not a transient policy but a beginning to a serious drive in the Middle East. It showed that new players are emerging in Middle East who can play key roles in regional equations. Turkey showed it has a say in region and is brave enough to stand against Israeli bully.

The new Middle East trend would force America and West to modify their relations with the occupying regime unlike the perceptions of Israel. If sovereign regimes oppose the US policies, the country will have to revise its unilateral policies.

However, there is another possibility. Turkey's military officials may not tolerate the Premier's stance and stage a coup and usher in dictatorship. However, the possibility is weak as the current government has a strong public support.

Middle East is going to be reborn.
