Palestinian national meeting set for Jan

Hamas representative in Tehran said truce with Zionist regime is not likely as long as the regime continues aggression against the Palestinians.

The representative of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas in Tehran Abu-Osama Abd-al-Moti in an interview with Qodsna rejected reports that his movement had made efforts for forging a truce with the Zionist regime, saying there had been no discussion between Hamas and the Zionist regime in this regard.

"We won't consider any truce offer with the Zionist regime unless the occupier regime halts its aggression and attacks on the Palestinians," Abd-al-Moti said.

Since a long time Hamas has announced its readiness for conditioned truce with Zionist regime, Hamas representative said.

The truce will guarantee the fulfillment of Palestinians rights, Abd-al-Moti added.

Asked about a Hamas offer for a preconditioned truce with the Zionist regime, he said the preconditions were set by all the Palestinian groups and included full ceasefire and halt of Israeli aggressions.

We will continue resistance until the Zionist regime accepts our preconditions, Hamas representative added.

Responding to Qodsna question about a prospective conference of the Palestinian movements in Damascus, Abd-al-Moti expressed hope the conference would be held in January 2008.

Representatives of all Palestinian factions along with delegates from some Arab countries and independent figures and intellectuals will participate in the conference, he said.

"This meeting was set to be held simultaneous with Annapolis meeting. However it was postponed until January," he said.

Pointing to relations between Fatah and Hamas, he said there had been many efforts for renewing ties between two movements but every internal or international effort was confronted with the PA President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and his followers.
