US seeks to leave passive stance on Syria

An Iranian political expert says the US aims to leave behind its passive stance and turn into an active player in Syria by striking a Syrian military base.

Hadi Mohammadi told the Qods News Agency (Qodsna) that the US also seeks to prop up the al-Nusra terror group that represents the al-Qaeda in Syria "as the base was used to counter the ISIS terror group in eastern Syria."

The expert said the US would have engaged in a direct war on Syria if it did not fear the reaction of Syria's allies.

The expert called for a well-thought response to the strike in diplomatic and military areas.

The expert said the Russia defense system may target any further US strikes as a protocol of cooperation between the two sides have been ceased.
