Italian historian urges imposition of int'l rules on Israel

Italian historian, Claudio Maufa says the UN may help advance the Palestinian issue through several means.

“Among the possible initiatives, a major would be a resolution of the United Nations to send a blue helmets mission on the 1967 borders between Israel and the West Bank and Gaza,” he told the Qods News Agency (Qodsna), adding by the borders he meant the “true original borders, not the borders built in the last decades by the new illegal Zionist colonies.”

“This decision would have its limits: for example a similar mission should be sent between now occupied Syrian Golan and Israel; and above all, such a decision would be in line of two states in Palestine, at the expense of more appropriate goal of a single secular state and bi-ethnic or multi-ethnic”.

“But the same decision would definitely have this revolutionary sign: the imposition of the rules of International Law on the Zionist entity,” Maufa said.

Asked about the Palestinian struggle for freedom, Maufa said “it would be useful for all Palestinians to understand that the battle of Syria's Assad to regain back the Golan Heights occupied by Israel is the same of Palestine.”

“And therefore it does not seem appropriate to take sides against the legitimate government in Damascus.”
