Day of Quds helps remember Palestinian plight

American author and historian, Lawrence Davidson says the International Day of Quds is imperative so that the rest of the world pays attention to the plight of the Palestinians.

Davidson was answering questions by the Q ods News Agency (Qodsna) a few days ahead of the 38th edition of the annual occasion.

“The aim of the Zionists is that, eventually, the people they conquered and expelled from their land be forgotten by the world. The example they often use is the American Indians whose fate is now forgotten or disregarded by most,” he wrote in an email interview.

“Therefore, if the rest of the world pays attention to the plight of the Palestinians by having commemorations such as the Day of al-Quds, the Zionists will not be able to erase the Palestinians from our memories,” he said.

The historian added however that Israeli racism and expansionism is really out of place in today’s world.

Asked about the motivation of Imam Khomeini in designating the international occasion, the American author said the late personality “was concerned with the fate of all Muslims in the light of Western economic and cultural penetration.”

“And, of course, Jerusalem (ed: Quds), Palestine, and the Holy Land in general play a seminal part in the history of the Abrahamic faiths, and particularly Islam. Thus, because he had this broader concern that went beyond Iran, a focus on this area was logical and necessary.”
