Islamic Revolution inspired other nations

Former UN rapporteur in Palestinian human rights affairs says the Islamic Revolution in Iran was a seminal event in the late 20th century.

It “awakened the Islamic world, especially in the Middle East, both to their present forms of bondage to corrupt and autocratic secular governance and to their potentiality for liberation and the benefits of living in freedom,” Richard Falk wrote in an email interview with the Qods News Agency.

The interview was staged a few days ahead of the 27th anniversary of the demise anniversary of the father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini.

“It is hard to speculate on what might have happened if history had unfolded in a different way, but there is little doubt that developments in Iran that resulted in the overthrow of the Shah’s regime by a popular movement inspired many in other countries to pursue freedom with renewed energy, although not always with successful results,” he said.
